It seems that 2008 was the year that India Couture came alive on it’s very own ramp and took it by storm. Year after year it has given us some of the most vibrant designs and colours from our most creative Indian designers and this year, from the 18th -23rd September, it will be no different even though it goes totally digital. Yet again, the President of the Fashion & Design Council of India, Mr. Sunil Sethi, has found an innovative way of bringing Indian couture to your doorstep.

2020 may well be the year that every one will remember for many reasons but the show must go on as they say. The most awaited event of the year brings together a myriad of people and designs at their finest, bringing you the best collections that you can get for that special occasion. The pandemic and the subsequent restrictions may have taken away the catwalk but it means that the designers are working even harder to re-create the back drop for the audience to show off their hard work, be it a Garden, Haveli or Studio.

But all is not lost as rather than a chosen few who are lucky enough to get the first row, it seems this year, everyone will be able to get up close and personal as they all take their seat right up front in their own homes. You’ll be able to take a keen look, therefore, at the detail and the cuts like never before. It seems the pandemic has stimulated the creative Indian mind with 12 Indian couturiers realising that going digital requires every detail to come together in the most perfect and dramatic way. Be prepared to witness new colours used by some for the first time, emotions evoked due to the disruption of the pandemic, themes from out of India & within.

This year each designer gets a 10-15minute slot as opposed to the usual 20-30 minutes which only means a more efficient line up with no repeats. We may not even have the celebrities walking the ramp this year but that means full focus on the pieces with designers pulling out all the stops for you, without any restrictions or guidelines. The whole show will simulate the physical event and will stream on FDCI’S digital platforms, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube & the FDCI website so everyone and everyone gets the chance to see it.

All the Design, Detail and Drama for ICW 2020 in association with Hindustan Times, will come in the form of Amit Aggarwal, Anju Modi, Dolly J, Falguni Shane Peacock, Gaurav Gupta, JJ Valaya, Kunal Rawal, Manish Malhotra, Rahul Mishra, Reynu Taandon, Shantanu & Nikhil and Suneet Varma with Archana Aggarwal as the Jewellery partner.

It will be divided into 2 sessions, one at 8pm and the other at 9.30pm so you don’t need to fret. So far, Gaurav Gupta and Suneet Varma will be kicking it all off on the 18th followed by Amit Aggarwal and Rahul Mishra on the 19th. The 20th sees Dolly J and JJ Valaya and then Reynu Taandon and Shantanu & Nikhil on the 21st. We enter the last lap with Kunal Rawal and Falguni Shane Peacock and walk towards the finish line with Anju Modi and Manish Malhotra on the 23rd.

Indian couture fashion goes totally digital for the first time from the 18th September and the couturiers have picked up the baton and run with it. Rather than seeing the pandemic as a spanner in the works, it has energised and challenged them all to see the advantages and to seek new opportunities as they give the audience their best performance ever. Whether this is a reflection of things to come, remains to be seen.
